Abstract

648,833. Electric resonators. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. June 13, 1947, No. 15643. Convention date, Jan. 6, 1943. [Class 40 (viii)] [Also in Group XL(c)] In a cavity resonator used in a U.H.F. aerial system (see Group XL (c)), the formation of modes of oscillation other than the desired mode is prevented by providing the resonator with a number of wires 25; of resistive material, extending from spaced points on the periphery of the resonator base to the top of a conductor post 24 located at the centre of the base (Figs. 7 and 8). A cylindrical wave-guide member 36 used with such a resonator and provided with circumferentially positioned apertures 45 for radiating (or receiving) electromagnetic energy is further provided with an energy absorbing block 43 (e.g. of carbon) spaced #/4 from an adjustable end wall 51 so that all energy propagated along the member 36 which is not radiated by the apertures 45 is absorbed by the block (Fig. 21).
