[Class 40 (v)] A transmitting or receiving aerial comprising a hollow conductor 10 is provided with a sleeve member 17 surrounding the open end 11, the sleeve being open at its forward end and shorted to the hollow conductor 10 at its rear end. The length of the sleeve 17 should be equal to a quarter wavelength at the operating frequency. The sleeve prevents the setting up of currents on the rim or external surface of the conductor 10, which currents would have the effect of distorting the directional diagram.
