[Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XIX] A double-acting reciprocating pump immersed in-an oil tank has the piston mounted on a shaft which has screw-threaded engagement with the worm-wheel of a worm reduction gear driven by a constant-speed motor through a further worm-reduction gear and belt-andpulley arrangement. The piston is moved slowly along the cylinder on rotation of the motor until it completes one stroke, whereupon a stop on the shaft trips a switch to stop the motor; the return stroke is effected by manual operation of a reversing switch for the motor. Suction non-return valves admit oil to the cylinder, and delivery is effected through non- return valves to a cylinder in which is the ram of a testing-machine for compressing samples of material.
