[Class 125(ii)] Apparatus for intercepting and returning to the source of supply any liquid contained in the suction line of an apparatus for filling bottles, cans and like liquid containers by suction, comprises two interconnected chambers a, d, chamber a being interposed in the suction line and permanently under vacuum, whilst chamber d is alternately under vacuum and subjected to atmospheric or higher pressure, liquid which flows from the chamber a to. the chamber d, being caused to escape from the latter when atmospheric or higher pressure exists therein, the flow of liquid into the chamber d automatically operating a float g which, when displaced to a sufficient extent in one direction, closes a vacuum port and opens an atmospheric or higher pressure one. As shown, chamber a is connected by spigot b to the vacuum line and by one or more spigots c to the suction pipes of filling heads. Surplus liquid sucked through the suction pipes into chamber a flows through a connecting pipe e to the second chamber d which has a spigot f also connected to the vacuum line. Float g is attached to a vertically-moving valve member l normally held in its downward position by atmospheric or higher pressure on a flat seating n. When liquid in chamber d reaches a certain level, float g rises, causing a valve o to close the vacuum port and simultaneously admitting air at atmospheric or higher pressure through valve l. The liquid in chamber d then flows through an outlet valve r and port s into the supply vessel, until float g falls back to its normal position, closing the atmospheric or higher pressure port and opening the vacuum one, when the cycle is repeated.
