Abstract
603,754. Cores for dynamo-electric machines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BALL, R. D. Oct. 30, 1945, No. 28703. [Class 35] Laminae for a salient pole field system are formed with ventilating holes behind the polefaces and two circumferentially spaced detents situated in the outer periphery behind one of each pair of poles and on either side of the ventilating holes, alternate laminµ or groups of laminµ being displaced by a pole pitch to produce a series of pockets in the outer surface of the field system. As shown for a 2-pole machine, each lamina 1 has poles 1a, 1b having holes 1c, 1d, the peripheral notches 1e producing the groups of pockets to enhance the cooling at the circumference. Grooves 1f may be filled with weld to secure the core, and the ducts may also accommodate leads or compensating windings inserted by slots in the pole faces, interpoles also being used if necessary.
