Abstract

603,573. Walls, roofs; structural posts; portable buildings. JANOVSKY, F. Dec. 28, 1944, No. 26011. [Classes 20(i), 20(ii) and 20(iv)] The studs of a stud and slab wall of a portable building comprise hollow sheet metal posts with rebates at the vertical edges to which the edges of the slabs are clamped by a cover strip screwed to the stud. A sixteen-sided building with pyramidal roof has corner wall posts with end plates 12 bolted to base plate sections 10a. Each post comprises two channels 19 spaced apart by blocks 23 welded to the channel flanges 20 which provide a rebate for asbestos &c. wall panels 17, 18. Sheet metal cover strips 31 clamp the panels to the posts by means of screws 25 engaging the blocks 23. Door or window frame units of pressed metal provide a gap at the outer edge of the stiles into which a post channel 19 fits. A modified post for single thickness walls comprises a single channel and a cover strip with a series of blocks for receiving screws passing. through holes in the post. Both inner and outer walls may stop short of the roof leaving a vertical gap; or the inner wall may support an extension panel or a fly screw, a metal strip at the join serving as a picture rail. The roof comprises frames of angle bars 57 and cross bars 63, 67, with feet 51 which are bolted to plates 29 at the top of the wall posts and spiral plates 66 bolted to a ring 54. Roof panels 68 are secured by strips 69 having bolts 70 passing between the bars of adjacent frames. Or in a double roof construction metal sheeting replaces the frame.
