Abstract
737,653. Sectional buildings; walls, roofs, door and window frames. FOSTER, D. B. Nov. 29, 1951 [Nov. 29, 1950], No. 29198/50. Classes 20 (1), 20 (3) and 20 (4). In a prefabricated building the outer walls are of double skin construction and comprise a self-supporting skeleton framework consisting of a plurality of substantially rectangular metal frames, e.g. of extruded aluminium, each comprising a base member as 8 or 10, a top member as 21 or 31 and two vertical members as 12, 13 or 14 secured together by angle brackets 28 to form a frame, each member having at least two parallel channels as a, b or 9a, 9b, Fig. 4, which face inwardly in an assembled frame whereby the two channels on different members will be in alignment, rectangular panels 1, 2 being located in and spaced by the channels a, b or 9a, 9b, the edges of the panels 1, 2 constituting at least the outer skin of the building being weather-sealed in their channels by means of a sealing mastic or compound or a rubber edging. The building is erected as follows : Trenches 26 are dug and a base frame comprising members 8 bolted together by angle brackets 25 is placed therein to project about 1 inch, the trenches being then filled with concrete which is poured inside the frame up to the point X, Fig. 4. A bitumastic, rubber, or precast concrete block floor 11 is then laid. The outer wall vertical members are then bolted to the base frame. These vertical members comprise members 12, corner members 13, members 14 adapted for locating internal partitions at right angles thereto and door posts 15, 16. The brackets 28 may be bolted, riveted or welded. The vertical members 20, Fig. 14, of partition walls are next secured by angle brackets to the base frame, including interior door frames. Back, side, front and intermediate copings are next bolted by angle brackets to the vertical members, the last three being 23, 21, 31 respectively, Figs. 4, 23, the outermost flanges of the copings being initially horizontal. The purlins 4 are bolted at each end to the side copings 23. Corrugated aluminium roof panels 3 are bolted to copings 23 and purlins 4. The roof slopes front to back, the ends of panels 3 resting on flanges on the front coping 21, Fig. 16, and being bolted to the back coping. Rubber mastic jointing seals all joints between roof panels. Aluminium outer wall panels 1 are fitted in the channels a, 9a, the outermost coping flanges being turned down, and similar flanges on the base and vertical members may be turned in to ensure rain-tightness. Hardboard inner wall panels 2 and all partitions are next inserted in channels as b, 9b, e.g. in member 20, Fig. 14. Finally, ceiling panels 5 of hardboard are located in channels in the purlins 4 and rest, as at 7, Fig. 4, on the side copings 23. Door and window frames are similarly formed, e.g. of members 18, 19, Figs. 12, 13, 23, bolted or hinged to the frames above described. Glass or plastic 24 completes the windows. Glass wool insulation may be packed in the double walls, or a third channel may be provided in the vertical members for this purpose. The gap between ceiling 5 and roof 3 may be similarly insulated.
