Abstract
An aluminium-base alloy contains between 0 and 1 per cent of iron, between 0.1 and 5 per cent of silicon, between 0.1 and 3 per cent magnesium, and between 1.1 and 4 per cent (in total) of one or more of the group lead, tin and thallium, the balance being aluminium. Up to a total of less than 2 per cent (in total) of one or more of the elements titanium, vanadium, molybdenum, chromium and tungsten may be added. An addition of up to 10 per cent zinc may be made. The Pb, Sn, Tl, and also Ti, V, Mo, Cr and W, may be added through chemical reaction, the salts of the metals to be added being poured on the surface of the bath of molten aluminium or aluminium alloys.
