Abstract
Metal parts (e.g. of Mo, W, Ta, Nb, Fe, steel, Ni and alloys thereof) are siliconized by treatment with a molten Cu alloy containing Si 3-30% (preferably 10-15%), the Cu and unused Si being subsequently removed by chemical or electro-chemical pickling. Up to 50% of the Cu in the alloy may be replaced by one or more of Ag, Sn, Zn, Pb, Al, Cd and Au, and up to 20% of the Si may be replaced by B. The siliconizing may be effected by dipping the parts into molten alloy, or by applying the alloy to the parts as a powder or by spraying or vapour deposition and subsequently melting it.
