Abstract

In a process for producing protective layers on metal parts (particularly of Mo, W, Nb, Ta, Re and their alloys), the parts are treated, as by immersion, with a Cu melt which contains up to 60% Si and/or Cr, and after formation of the resulting protective layer the free Si and/or Cr is dissolved by means of a metal melt which contains no more than 5% of Si and/or Cr, the resulting metal layer being chemically or electrochemically removed. The Cu melt may contain up to a total of 50% of one or more of Sn, Zn, Al or Ag. The final metal melt may be of Zn, Sn, Cu, Ag or their alloys and may contain up to a total of 50% of Al, Bi, Cd or Pb.
