Abstract

602,940. Wheel tyres. CHAUBEYRE, L. M. A. Nov. 12, 1945, No. 30195. Convention date, March 11, 1941. [Class 144 (ii)] A detachable tread band, particularly for use on pneumatic tyres of tractor wheels, comprises spaced transverse metal shoes 1 linked to circumferential side-chains 14, one (or both) of which is (or are) connected to an inner tensioning- chain 19. Each tread shoe comprises a pair of ground-engaging whigs 4, 5 which diverge outwardly at an angle greater than 90 degrees. As shown, the shoes are connected by links 9, 11, 13, to sections of the chain 14, one end of which is fitted with a plate 23 carrying a hook 24 for engagement with the other end of the chain. An inner tensioning-chain 19, passing through guides 18 linked to the chain 14, is fitted with a similar hooking device 33. A suitable tool for tensioning the chains is described in Specification 421,874. The strakes are profiled to hug the tyre tread, and provided with mud-clearing apertures.
