Abstract

535,450. Wheel tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and DAW, R. F. Feb. 5, 1940, No. 2175. [Class 144 (ii)] A tyre gaiter comprises a rubber base portion 1 of channel section, a chain 4 fitted in the channel, and attachment straps 5 passing through end slots in the rubber and connected to the end links of the chain by means of hooked plates 6 riveted to the straps. As shown, the ground-engaging surfaces of the rubber portion may be formed with serrations 9 and grooves 10. The straps, which are buckled around the rim, may be fitted with metal saddles to prevent abrasion by the rim or wheel.
