Abstract

231,752. Pearson, C. E. Sept. 16, 1924. Tread bands, projections, and surfaces.-Spaced shoes 3 comprising a flat bar bent to U-shape and fitted t'o a pneumatic tyre, have each a central longitudinal rib 7 which may be sectionally divided as shown in Fig. 3. The shoe ends 3<a> are fastened inside the rim by straps 4 and a buckle 5, each strap being given a turn round a wheel spoke to obviate circumferential movement. For heavy lorries and the like, the shoe is preferably formed with an undivided rib, and secured to the wheel, as shown in Fig. 6, by a chain 8 and hook 9 fitted with a sliding keeper 12<a>. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, the width of the shoe is made adjustable, and is cut into two parts, the underside of one part being fitted with a plate 13 on which the other part can slide. Bolts 14 fitted to the sliding part engage slots 15 in the other part.
