Abstract
280,065. Shimamoto, S. Jan. 17, 1927. Tread bands.-Tread shoes, which provide a grip for a vehicle wheel in mud, comprise dished metal units 13 bolted to plates 19 which are formed with curled edges 26 to lie upon the tyre, and with hooked ends 23 to engage similar hooks on adjacent units 13. A strap 28 connects each unit 13 to the wheel felly. Chains 27 pass through the curled edges 26 to connect the units 13 together on the wheel, and straps 33, linked to the chains 27, prevent creeping of the units. In modified constructions, the plate 19 may be formed integral with the unit 13, or the shoe, itself, may carry lateral extensions with hooked ends to engage hooks on adjacent shoes, lateral extensions may be formed on the shoes to dig into the mud and prevent backlash; or the shoes may be connected together by chain links instead of by hooks.
