Abstract

612,717. Vehicle wheels. BERRY, W. Oct. 26, 1945, Nos. 28313/45 and 28398/46. Classes 144 (i) and 144 (ii)] A detachable tread band for use on tyres of tractor and like vehicle wheels comprises a flexible steel band shaped or fitted to hug the tyre and provided with traction-lugs, and a narrow ground-engaging ring flush-seated in slots in the lugs. As shown in Figs. 3 and 6, the flexible tyre-engaging band is formed in two portions 12, 13 connected and tightened on to the tyre 4 by bolts 16 and a right-andleft turnbuckle 10. The bolts &c. are passed through plates 14, 15-14<SP>1</SP>, 15<SP>1</SP> on the ends of the segments 12, 13. The outer tread ring segments 21, which are welded to the plates, have one or more gaps 23 to permit sliding movement in the slots 22 of the lugs 17 during expansion and contraction of the band 12, 13.
