Abstract

Endless-track vehicles.-Gripping elements for use on the rims of tractor and like wheels, or on pneumatic tyres, stated to be applicable also to endless-tracks, consist of projecting plates spaced radially from the ordinary tread surface so as to provide clearance between the latter and the plates. Fig. 6 shows an arched plate 8 riveted to brackets 8<b> on the rim flanges 3 of a tractor &c. wheel, a substantial space 9 being left between the plate and the wheel rim 2. The latter may be formed with cross-ribs 2<a>. Fig. 11 shows a modification in which the plate 8 is wider than the rim, the brackets 14 being extended laterally and radially for attachment to the rim and plate. The tread surfaces of the plates may be curved, flat, or angular. Figs. 14 and 16 show the application of the invention to a pneumatic tyre. In this form, tread plates 17 are connected to, but spaced from, plates 16 fitting over the tyre. These plates may be attached to the side chains of a chain tread band. In the construction shown, they .are riveted to segments 20 which are connected by rivets 22 and attached to the wheel by radial arms 24 and bolts 23.
