Abstract

561,221. Vehicle wheels. CLARKE, N. V. Oct. 12, 1942, No. 14302. [Class 144 (i)] A built-up metal tyre is adapted to be secured to a wheel from which the detachable rim of a pneumatic tyre has been removed. A wheel 1, Fig. 2, of the kind adapted for the rim of a pneumatic tyre securable by side flanges is fitted with a metal tyre comprising a tread ring 6, with or without strakes 14 for soft ground, an inner ring 7 seated on the wheel body, and connecting bars 8 welded to the rings. The inner ring is welded to an angle ring 13 secured by bolts 5 to the wheel body, and the tread ring may be stiffened by a middle T-sectioned ring 12. Modifications applicable to wheels normally having other types of pneumatic tyre rims are described, and provision may be made for several different offset positions of the tread ring. A tyre for a wheel with a well base type of rim comprises a tread ring 6 divided transversely and connected by bars 8 to divided inner T-section rings 26, which are connected transversely by bars 27.
