Abstract

792,233. Vehicle wheels. PIRELLI SOC. PER AZIONI. Oct. 11, 1955 [May 12, 1955], No. 28929/55. Class 144 (2). A divided wheel-rim comprising two rim sections secured together by bolts 6 or the like passing through abutting flanges extending radially inwardly one from each rim section, is rendered airtight for use with tubeless tyres by a rubber or like sealing-ring 5 compressed between the two flanges within a cavity formed by opposed complementary circumferential grooves 4 formed in the facing surfaces of said two flanges. The sealing-ring is essentially of larger cross-sectional area than that of the cavity but may be of any sectional shape, such as circular, oval or polygonal, and may be longitudinally grooved. The rim flange securing-bolts may lie radially inwardly or outwardly of the sealing- ring 5, or, as shown in Fig. 6, may pass through the ring 5. In the latter case seatings for the bolt heads or nuts may be formed on the flanges or by shaped washers 9. Specification 791,692 is referred to.
