602,842. Stays for hinged articles ; releasable fastenings. ELLIOTT (WINDSCREENS), Ltd., and WELLER, W. V. Nov. 22, 1945, No. 31539. [Classes 44 and 65 (i)] An adjustable stay for a windscreen 1 pivotally mounted in a fixed frame for movement about a generally horizontal axis 5 comprises a pair of catches mounted on the frame and at opposite sides thereof, a pair of arms 8 each of which is connected at one end with the windscreen and is slidable relatively to one of the catches by which it is adapted to be engaged at any of a number of points, and means for operating both of the catches simultaneously. The arms, which are arc-shaped, are each pivoted at 9 and are formed with recesses 11 more closely spaced towards the pivoted end. The catches each comprise a slidably mounted bar 25 formed with a tooth 26 adapted to engage in any of the recesses. An operating rod 7 carries a pair of two-armed levers, each having an arm 34 which engages a recess 35 in a catchbar. The other arms 36 are engaged by leaf springs 37 which act to rock the lever in the direction to cause the catches to engage the arms. An operating handle 31 is mounted on the rod 7.
