Abstract
622,392. Stays for hinged members. DIBBEN, S. C. March 18, 1947, No. 7466. [Class 65 (i)] A window &c. stay comprises two members adapted to engage together slidably and to be attached respectively to the window and the frame, one of the members having mounted rotatably thereon an eccentric locking device 9 and the other member having thereon a series of intersecting locking surfaces in the form of transverse, arcuate-shaped grooves 6. The locking device is adapted, upon rotation, to engage with or disengage from a selected one of the surfaces. As shown, the latter member comprises a stay bar 1 pivoted to a bracket 2 adapted to be attached to the window, while the former member comprises a U-shaped guide 3 pivoted to a bracket 5 adapted to be attached to the sill. A lug formed on the guide member engages a channel-shaped recess formed in the lower surface of the bar. The locking member comprises a handle 10 having a cylindrically shaped end pivoted eccentrically at 8 within the guide member. In a modification an extension bar, adapted to telescope with respect to the stay bar 1, carries at its one end 'the guide member 9 and is pivoted at its other end to the window. In a further modification the grooved member is attached to the sill, the guide member being pivoted to one end of a plain stay bar pivoted at its other end to the window. It is stated that the members may be die cast from light metal alloys. The Provisional Specification states that a link member may be 'interposed between the stay bar and the window, the pivotal axes at the ends of the link being at right angles to one another.
