Abstract

674,917. Controlling aircraft. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd. Nov. 2, 1950, No. 26807/50. Class 4. The flap of an aircraft wing is carried by a pair of members connected respectively to the parts of an articulated carriage which is supported in a. guide-way which is linear throughout the greater part of its length and terminates rearwardly in a downwardly inclined section such that on displacing the carriage along the guide-way the flap is carried rearwardly from its retracted position in substantially the same plane until one portion of the carriage enters the bent portion of the guide-way, when the member connected to that portion brings about angular movement of the flap. The wing 1 is provided with tracks 3 each enclosed within a housing 20 and formed at its rear end with a downward extension 3<SP>1</SP>. A carriage 4, provided with rollers 5, 6 and an articulated portion 7 having rollers 9, is mounted on each track and supports a flap 2 by means of an arm 10, fast with the flap and pivoted to the carriage and a link 12 pivoted to the flap and the carriage portion 7. The flap is lowered from the position A by rearward movement of the carriage along the tracks until it reaches position B when the rollers 9 enter the portion 3' of the track to cause the link 12 to depress the flap to the position C.
