Abstract
602,807. Jet propulsion. AEROJET ENGINEERING CORPORATION. June 30, 1945, No. 16706. Convention date, Aug. 23, 1944. [Class 114] A jet-propulsion device comprises a cylindrical shell 5, with converging inlet and outlet sections 2, 6. Surrounding medium, e.g. water, enters at 3 and passes through valve assembly 19 to reaction chamber R, where substances which react with this medium are injected through nozzles 20 &c. Pressure generated closes valves 19 and ejects medium rearwardly. Flow of reagent is controlled by a water-driven oscillatory valve. Pressure in the reaction chamber is maintained automatically by a spring-loaded tailpiece, a block 140 in the outlet nozzle controlled by spring 139, Fig. 12, or by expansion chamber on space R maintained by air pressure. Reagents such as alkaline earth metal hydrides suspended in carbon tetrachloride are used with water or Al (BH 4 ) 3 .
