Abstract
746,068. Supplying liquid fuel to burners. URQUHART'S (1926), Ltd. Sept. 24, 1954 [Sept. 25, 1953], No. 26442/53. Class 75(1). The invention resides in a system supplying liquid fuel and gas, for instance air or steam, to a burner 2 and in a device for carrying out the system. In the system the pressure of the gas acts on one face of a movable spring-loaded partition 10 the other face of which bears against a volume of liquid fuel communicating with the fuel passage in the burner through control means arranged to restrict the flow of fuel towards the burner when the partition is displaced by the gas pressure and to permit rapid retraction of the fuel from the burner when the gas pressure ceases. The system prevents dripping of fuel from the burner nozzle when the burner is shut down. The device comprises a casing divided by the partition 10 into two chambers 7, 9, the chamber 7 having a closure wall having a restricted passage 13 through it for the gradual flow of fuel from the chamber and having a one-way valve allowing non- restricted flow of the fuel into the chamber. The one-way valve comprises a ball 14 resting on a conical seating. The partition 10 is clamped peripherally between the body 6 and cover 8 of the casing and carries centrally a stop member 16 spaced a short distance from the cover. The chamber 9 is connected by a pipe 11 to the compressed air supply line to the burner. When the burner is started the burner air moves the partition 10 against the action of its spring 15 to drive the fuel in chamber 7 gradually through the restricted passage 13, but when the burner is shut down the spring 15 reverses the movement of the partition and fuel is pulled back suddenly from the burner nozzle through the one-way valve.
