Abstract
1,047,002. Vibratory mechanisms. E. R. SARTOR and E. W. SARTOR. May 25, 1964, No. 21597/64. Heading F2X. [Also in Division B2] A vibrator, which may be used as a mixer, crusher or pulverizer comprises a cylindrical housing 1 with end walls 3, 5, Fig. 2 (not shown), forming a rotor chamber 7, and an annular rotor 2 which is rotated around the inner surface 8 of the housing 1 by fluid, e.g. compressed air, reaction jets issuing from a ring of passages 15 in the rotor side wall and having inlets in a rotor end face 13 which successively register with a flared housing inlet 9, exhaust fluid leaving the rotor chamber 7 by a ring of housing end ports 10. The housing is recessed at 11 adjacent the exhaust ports 10. The rotor has one or more different sized starting reaction jet passages 17 fed from a chamber 14 in the rotor and constantly in communication with inlet 9. Fluid escaping past the rotor ends from chamber 14 suspends the rotor endwise. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), water injected by a nozzle 33 into the rotor chamber 14 is vaporized by a gas burner 31 under the housing and fed over the rotor end to the reaction passages 15. In a further modification the housing may have a two- or three-lobed inner surface to provide predetermined major directions of vibration. When used as a crusher, Fig. 9 (not shown), solid, liquid or a mixture thereof fed from a side shoot 36 is crushed between the rotor and inner surface 8 and ejected with the driving fluid from the exhaust ports.
