Abstract

1453473 Spray producers DAVY POWERGAS GmbH 12 Oct 1973 [14 Oct 1972 17 Nov 1972] 47726/73 Heading B2F [Also in Divisions Cl and F4] An ultrasonic atomiser 1 for atomising waste sulphuric acid in a cracking furnace 6, Fig. 5, comprises an ultrasonic generator 3, Fig. 2, with an annular resonance chamber 3a located therein, a pipeline 3i for feeding in the operating medium, e.g. a gas or vapour for the ultrasonic generator, and a surface 3f for directing the stream of operating medium from said pipeline into chamber 3a, wherein a rotary atomiser 19 or a pressure atomiser (16) Fig. 1, (not shown) is provided and a feed pipe 20 for the waste acid extends into the cup 19a of the rotary atomiser, said pipe having a plurality of lateral orifices 20a. The annular space 15 between atomiser 19 and generator 3 is connected by a pipeline 15a to a source of gas under pressure, which forms a gas buffer to prevent entry of other gases into said space. Atomiser 19 is connected to a hollow rotary drive shaft 17 mounted coaxially around the acid feed pipe. The operating medium is preferably low pressure steam or alternatively compressed air or a combustible gas. In an alternative embodiment the ultrasonic generator is surrounded by the outlet orifice of the feed channel for waste sulphuric acid. The cracking furnace is generally cylindrical and includes a burner 7 located centrally in its roof 6a and a plurality of ultrasonic atomisers 1 located in the roof and distributed uniformly around and equidistant from the burner.
