Abstract

602,657. Carding - engines. HOLMES, A. E. Nov. 8, 1945, No. 29754. [Class 120(i)] In a carding-machine, a reciprocating plate b is provided adjacent each edge a of the travelling web of carded or partly carded fibre as it leaves the doffer or last roller of the machine, the plates being of such a width and receiving a reciprocating motion of such amplitude that the edges of the web are pushed inwardly, thickened and consolidated by a series of rapidly successive pats. As shown, plates b are carried by members b<SP>1</SP> which slide in slots in brackets b<SP>2</SP> and are reciprocated by the rods c of eccentrics d or alternatively by camoperated rocking levers. Plates b may be arranged parallel to the web edges a or may be inclined thereto at a small angle. Provision may be made for varying the amplitude of the reciprocations.
