Abstract
602,656. Securing turbine drums on shafts. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Nov. 7, 1945, No. 29740. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1944. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Groups II, XIII and XXVI] In a turbine rotor drum having at least one internal supporting body which is united at its periphery with the interior of the drum along at least one helical line, the drum and supporting body are inter-connected by inter-engaging ribs and grooves which positively connect the drum and supporting body in the radial direction. The turbine rotor drum 1, Fig.. 1, carried by supporting discs 3 mounted on a shaft 4, is provided with helical ribs 6 which engage with grooves in the periphery of the discs. The drum is assembled by screwing the discs into the drum. The ribs 6 may be in the form of a single or multiple start thread. In order to avoid bending stresses in the drum, the part of the drum wall between the supporting discs may be in the form of a catenary. In a modi-- fication, grooves are cut in both the drum and the supporting discs which are secured to each other by a helical member engaging both sets of grooves. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the application of the invention to drums for centrifuges and rotary heat-exchangers. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
