Abstract

602,524. Rotary engines &c. MOORLEY, G. W. F., and LITTLE, I. Oct. 16, 1945, Nn. 27000. [Class 110 (ii)] In a rotary pump or motor of the outwardly-sliding vane type, the internal periphery of the stator consists of portions of greater radius alternating with. portions of lesser radius, a port being provided at the junction of successive portions, there being at all times at least two vanes between successive ports, and the base of each vane slot is vented as the corresponding vane moves inwards in passage from each portion of greater radius to the succeeding portion of lesser radius. The left-hand half 'of the upper part of Fig. 2 is a rabbetted horizontal section ; the right-hand half is a vertical section. The two abutments 5 each extend over an arc of about 90 degrees, and are connected with the peripheral walls 8 by ramps 9. The walls 8 are concentric with the rotor 1. At each inlet port 6 the stator periphery is formed with a recess 11 at each side of a central rib 10 ; the recesses permit the fluid to be admitted to both front and rear of a vane passing the inlet port. A similar provision is made at the outlet ports to permit of reversal of the direction of rotation. The two inlet ports 6 are fed from a common inlet union 14 by way of an arcuate conduit 15 formed in a side plate 23 ; the outlet ports 7 are connected by similar means to an outlet union 16. A groove 13 is cut down each vane slot to admit fluid to the underside of the vane to assist in forcing it outwards. Alternatively, a groove may be cut across the rear face of each vane to connect by way of a radial hole in the vane with the bottom of the slot. The springs 12 may be superseded by the use of a cam track.
