Abstract
602,455. Converting intermittent into continuous movements. PHILCO RADIO & TELEVISION CORPORATION. Sept. 29, 1944, No. 18719. Convention date, Oct. 1. [Class 80 (iii)] Intermittent unidirectional movement of a member 6 is converted into continuous unidirectional movement of a driven member 9 by use of one or more fly-wheels 27. The latter are fixed to a crank-shaft 26 supported in bearings carried by a fork 30 on a rod 8 fixed to the member 9. The crank-pin 29 of the shaft 26 is connected bv a link 31 to the member 6 formed as a rack bar 12. The bar 12 is given unidirectional movements by a pawl 21 on an oscillating link 16. Such movements tend partly to rotate the shaft 26 and partly to move the member 9. During the stationary periods of the bar 12, the inertia of the fty-wheels 27 continue to move the member 9. A detent 23 prevents backward movement of the bar 12. The invention may be applied to a machine for cutting a microscopic spiral groove in a continuously rotated work-piece by means of a progressively moving cutting tool.
