Abstract
1,072,313. Gearing for converting rotary motion into oscillating motion. H. DROLL. Jan. 11, 1965 [Jan. 11, 1964; July 9, 1964], No. 1221/65. Heading F2Q. Rotation of an input shaft 21 is converted into oscillation of an output shaft 71 by mechanism comprising a planet carrier 25 secured to the input shaft 21, a planet 31 meshing a planet 32 which is coupled to a fixed gear 35 by a shaft 33 and gear 34, and a crank arm 37 secured to a planet shaft 29 and having a crank-pin 38 which engages a bore in a slide block 42. A rack 45 is carried by the slide block 42, which is mounted on parallel guide bars 43, 44, and a pinion 46 meshes the rack 45. An adjustable throw crank 49 is attached to a shaft 48 carrying the pinion 46 and a crank pin 51 engages a bore in a slide block 55 mounted on parallel guide bars 56, 57. A pinion 65 is slidably mounted on shaft 71 and meshes a rack 64 on the back of the slide block 55. The absolute speed of the planet shaft 29 is three times that of the input shaft 21, and the radius of crank arm 37 is between one eighth and one ninth, inclusive, of the distance between the axes of shafts 21 and 29. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), movement of a slide 42<SP>1</SP> is transmitted to a toothed sector 93 by a pivoted lever 88 and link 89. The lever 88 is free to slide longitudinally in a pivot bearing 95, 96, the axial position of which may be varied by actuation of a power cylinder 108 and piston 109 to move a yoke 106 carrying the bearing 95, 96 against an adjustable face cam 115.
