Abstract

[Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A tool for stripping insulation from the end of a cable comprises a sleeve C mounted for rotation between end plates A2, A3 and carrying a cutter-head D, D<SP>1</SP> for shearing the insulation E as the cable is fed through alined bores in the plate A<SP>3</SP>, sleeve C, and cutter. As shown in Fig. 1, the cutter D<SP>1</SP> has an inclined cutting- edge D<SP>2</SP> adjacent the end of a sleeve D<SP>3</SP> secured within the cutter by a screw D<SP>4</SP> so that a metal casing E of the insulation is removed in the form of a helix F. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the cutter G is detachably secured, by a screw G<SP>1</SP>, in a forward extension G<SP>2</SP> of the head D. In operation, the cable is held against rotation by a clamp (not shown) and is fed up to the cutter until the clamp abuts the part A<SP>4</SP> of the plate A<SP>3</SP>.
