Abstract

830,798. Internal tube cutters; boring-heads; portable turning-apparatus. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd., and LANE, E. J. March 19, 1958 [March 29, 1957], No. 10335/57. Classes 83 (3) and 83 (4). An internal tube-cutter includes a cutting- blade 4 secured to the end of a spindle 1 rotating in an eccentrically bored sleeve 6, itself rotated at a slightly different speed so that the blade is moved outwardly as it rotates to sever a tube 17 immediately behind a tube-supporting wall 18. The spindle 1 is rotated by an air or electric motor 3, and the eccentric sleeve 6 through gearing 12, 16, 13, from the spindle 1. Cutting- lubricant is fed through a pipe 10, recesses 7, 9 and a spindle groove 2. The tool may be used for the internal grooving of tubes or tube sheet holes, and for undercutting blind holes.
