Abstract

601,955. Motor vehicle steering gear. MAVOR & COULSON, Ltd. (Joy Manufacturing Co.). March 24, 1944, No. 5531. [Class 79 (v)] In a vehicle having four-wheel steering a longitudinal guide is provided at one side of the frame along which slide a pair of connectors one being connected to the front steerable wheels and the other to the rear steerable wheels, the two connectors being joined together by a flexible member moving in an endless path round rollers at each end of the guide, whereby the connectors are moved equally in opposite directions during steering. In Fig. 4, the steering wheel 10 is connected to a drag link 15 pivoted to the steering arm 16 of the front wheels 17. Also pivoted to the steering arm 16 is a rod 20 whose other end is attached to the connector 21 which moves along the horizontal guide rod 22 and is connected by flexible chains 32, 33 to a similar connector 26, the latter being fastened to rod 27 whose other end is pivoted on the steering arm 28 of the rear wheels 29. Thus movements of the front pair of wheels are imparted in equal degree and opposite sense to the rear pair of wheels.
