Abstract

596,211. Tractors. CATTANACH, R. S., and MECHANISED HORTICULTURAL IMPLEMENTS, Ltd. Oct. 24, 1945, No. 28060. [Classes 79 (i), 79 (iv) and 79 (v)]. An agricultural tractor comprises a horizontal frame supported at or near its one end by a pair of land wheels and at its front end by an endless track propulsive unit, the frame having a steering column rigid therewith and on which is rotatably mounted a tube fixed to the propulsive unit, steering being effected by relative movement between the fixed column and the tube. The frame of the tractor comprises a single tube 1 (Figs. 1, 2, Specification 596,148) housed in a block 2 at its forward end and slidably mounted in another block 3 at its rear end, the latter block also slidably housing the axle tube 16 whose outer ends carry stub axles 17 for the wheels 25, 26. The steering column 4 is keyed into the vertical bore of the block 2 and rotatably mounted thereon by bushes 30, 35, Fig. 4, and a tubular member 33 which is rigidly fixed to the frame 5 of the propulsive unit. A gear wheel 27 is mounted at the head 'of. the column and is in constant mesh with a pinion 28 mounted on a shaft 29 to which the steering wheel is attached. The frame 5 surmounts the endless track 6 and supports the motor 7. The rear wheels 25, 26 are adjustable laterally by virtue of the sliding tube 16 within the block 3 and also the stub axles 17 which are slidably mounted within the axle 16.
