601,667. Moulds for hollow concrete beams. MORTON, B. Sept. 27, 1944, No. 18420. [Class 87(ii)] The core comprises two L-section rigid overlapping sheet metal members 13, 14 which rest upon wooden bars 12, the members being secured together, outside the ends of the mould, by screws 16. The mould comprises side walls 1, 2 braced together by rods 3, apertured end walls 4 each divided horizontally at the line 8 and fitting into sockets 5 in the side walls, and filling pieces 6 having gaps 7 therebetween to accommodate projecting reinforcement. In use, concrete is laid in the mould to form the bottom B of the beam, then the bars 12 are laid upon the bottom, the members 13, 14 are placed on the bars, and the mould is filled with concrete. After the concrete has set the members 13, 14 are disconnected and knocked out of position, the parts 13, 14, 12 and 6 are withdrawn from the mould, and finally the beam is withdrawn. By omitting the initial layer B, an open trough-shaped beam is formed. The size of the cavity may be varied, for different-sized beams, by varying the height of the bars 12. Instead of wooden bars, solid or hollow rubber bars may be used. A bar may sit saddlewise on a solid rubber bar. A cavity may be made by using two pairs of members as in Fig. 14. A spring may collapse the members after they have been disconnected. Specification 572,522 is referred to.
