CEMENT-MOLDING APPARATUS.

This invention relates to a cement molding apparatus.
Objects ot this invention are to provide a cement molding apparatus, such for instance, as a block molding apparatus which may be used to rapidly produce cement blocks in a highly eiiicacious manner.
Further objects are to provide a cement molding apparatus which is so constructed that any one ot' a plurality of ditierent types ot blocks may be made by this device, and more speeiiieally, it is an object et this invention to provide a novel torni of cement lock molding apparatus in which the body portion is provided with a plurality et apertures adapted to receive tongues of removable members for shaping or contouring the particular type of bloelr termed by the apparatus, so that the main body portion may be used with any set ot cores or other inembers ot this type.
Further objects are to provide a cement molding` box in which a movable bottom is provided so that the bottom may be moved slightly after the box has been inverted in order to tree it from engagement with the cement, and to provide a novel-means 'for the box to 'facilitate turning the box over without jar to the contents thereof, and without requiring the operator to litt the weight of the box and the cement therein.

Referring to the drawings it will be seen that the box is provided with a body portion 1 of rectangular contour. The box is provided with angular guides or strips ft adjacent its lower side edges as shown most clearly in Figures 1 and 3. Between these guides or strips, a movable bottom 5 is slidably positioned, and is adapted to be slid longitudi- Ynally oit the box when desired as described 1926. Serial No. 110,686.
in detail hereinafter. The bottom is provided with transverse end bars 2 which are equipped with spherical feet 3. It is to be noted that the guides t are cut out as indicated at 4 at one end to accommodate one of the transverse bars 2. This construction insures the entering of the bottom only from one end of the box, and also limits the motion of the bottom in one direction to thus properly position the slots hereinafter described. The bottom of the box is provided with a plurality of parallel slots G as shown in Figures 1 and 2, and the ends and sides are similarly provided with parallel slots 7 as shown in Figure 3. rlhese slots are adapted for the reception of tongues carried by the cores and other members, as will appear as the description proceeds. For example, when it is desired to form blocks with a hollow, interior cavity et rectangular contour, a core such as indicated by the reference character' 8 in Figures l and 3 may be provided. This core is a hollow metal member with a closed top andtapers upwardly and has a plurality of tongues or ears 9 which are pressed through the corresponding slot 6 in the bottom et' the box. These ears are preferably apertured and receive lockingpins 10.
Other types of cores may be provided, for example as shown in Figures 2 and 3. The corners ot the block may be cut away by means ot a corner core 1l, such corner core being provided with a. bottom tongue, if desired, or else with a laterally extending tongue l2 as shown most clearly in Figure 3. This tongue passes through a slot in the side wall ot the box and is locked in place by means of a locking pin as shown in Figures 2 and 3. Further, it it is desired to form a cut out at t-he end ot the block, this may be readily produced by means oi the curved end core member 13 shown in Figure 2, such end core member being provided with tongues or ears 14 passed through the appropriate slots in the end ot the mold or box, which are similarly locked in place by means of pins.
The box is provided on one side with a pa' 7 of curved straps or .supporting members 15.
In using the box, it is merely necessary to fill it with Cement, or any suitable mixture of this type, and to thereafter cut it oft across the top in the usual manner. Thereafter, the box is tilted sidewise,-to the lett, as shown in Figure 3, so that it rolls upon the side support l5. This rolling motion may be continued until the box is in verted. rlhereafter, the bottom is slid a. slight distance to loosen the central core and also to tree the bottom vfrom the cen'ient.` 'lhe box, obviously, may be tapped to i'ury ther free it trom the cement, and thereaifter,

'lhis core as well as allot the cores employed with tl 's apparatus may be providedavith apertui to receive clamping bolts 1S as shown in Figure These clamping bolts may be employed to lock 'division plates 19 in place as shown in Figure ll. These division plates may entend, for example, transversely from the core to the sides of the box, and thus, when the device is assembled, as shown in Figure 4i, the boxmay be used to form halt blocks.

Further, it is to be noted 'from reference to Figure 3 that the ends of the body portion may be provided with notches 22 at their top edges. These notches are adapted to receive the tongues 23 oi" the divisionv plates 24; which extend lengthwise of the box. These division plates, therefore, may be used to Vdivide the box longitudinally sothat a plurality ot relatively thin elongated bloclrs or slabs may be formed. Obviously, it may be desired to produce slabs Whose thickness is not an even divisiony ot the Width of Vthe box. Under these conditions, it is merely necessary to bolt a narrow ilanged plate to one of the division plates 24: as shoivn in Figure 6. ln this Way, the cement-vis pre'- vented from being deposited in the unused space, for instance, the space indicated by the reference character Q6 in Figure G. , It is to be noted further that a simple type oiti apparatus Ylor molding cement has been provided, vvhich although ot relatively simple construction, nevertheless, will produce a multitude o'lf ditlerent shaped blocks in a rapid and easy manner.
Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is intended as illustrative rather than limiting as the invention maybe variously embodied and as the scope ol' such invention is to be determined as claimed.
