Abstract

628,480. Moulds for concrete blocks. HAGGARD, J. G. R. Oct. 5, 1946, No. 29756. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group X] A mould for forming concrete blocks which as shown is used for casting continuous walls (see Group X) comprises side plates 3, 4 hinged to an end plate 1, the axis of each hinge being displaced longitudinally and transversely from the end plate, so that for a small angular movement of the side plates a relatively large displacement at the corners is obtained. The two hinged ends of the side plates are connected by a link 12 which ensures equal and opposite angular movements of the plates. The free ends of the plates are held together and moved apart by bell-crank levers 19, 20 interconnected by an adjustable link 12. The free ends of the plates are closed by an end plate which has sets of slots, any set of which may be engaged with pins 17 on the side plates. A bolt 18 may also tie the side plates together. The mould may be moved horizontally by means of a rubbercovered roller 25 which is rotated by a lever, pawl and ratchet mechanism. The end plate 1 may have a slightly tapered core 2 which may have a slot 11 for retaining wire cross ties. The end plate may have holes for the insertion of reinforcing rods. Handles may be provided for pulling the apparatus back from a formed block or for lifting the apparatus.
