Abstract

906,542. Moulding concrete beams. PRESTRESSED & REINFORCED CONCRETE ENGINEERING Ltd. July 28, 1959 [July 28, 1958], No. 24304/58. Class 87(2). A machine for moulding concrete beams comprises two side formers 11 which are movable from the position, shown in Fig. 2, where, with a pallet 15, they form a mould; means to separate the side formers and to raise the pallet; and a beam 21, supported above and between the side formers 11 so as to be movable both vertically and horizontally, carrying at least one vibrator 33. The beam 21 is supported from a carriage 19 through posts 27, 27<SP>1</SP>, 31 on which are pivoted levers 25, 26 and an arm 30, the levers having cam surfaces whereby they hold up guide rods 22, projecting from the beam 21, when a handle 32 is depressed. When the handle 32 is raised the arm 30 is rotated and arms 28, 29 cause levers 25, 26 to move away and the beam 21 descends till stops 35 thereon meet the upper surface of the formers 11. One end (e.g. the right-hand end as shown) of the beam 21 rests, through a plate 34, on one end of the concrete (e.g. the left-hand end) and is pressed down by a spring 23. The vibrators 33 are energized and a length of the concrete at one end, up to the position 38, is compacted to the level 37. The beam is then raised and the carriage 19 moved till the beam 21 is in position to compact another length of the concrete, and so on till the whole length has been moulded and compacted. Arms 14 are then swung back to release the side formers 11 which swing outwards, allowing the beam to be raised on the pallet 15 by spring-mounted rollers 17. In a modification, one only of the side formers may be movable and the side formers and pallet may be locked together by pins. The beam may be raised and lowered hydraulically. The distance between the side formers may be adjustable in their working position. The machine may be adapted, to mould beams of various sections, including beams having a slight bend. Additional means may be provided to guide the beam 21. Specification 893,791 is referred to.
