Abstract

A JARRING DEVICE FOR PRODUCING MOLDED BODIES WHICH IS PROVIDED WITH A JARRING TABLE ON TOP OF WHICH IS ATTACHED A MOLD BOX INTO WHICH THE MATERIAL TO BE MOLDED IS INTRODUCED. A COVER WEIGHT EXTENDS FROM ABOVE INTO THE MOLD BOX TO REST ON THE MOLDING MATERIAL THEREIN. A GUIDE ROD EXTENDS VERTICALLY UPWARDLY FROM THE CENTER OF THE COVER WEIGHT AND EXTENDS WITH ITS UPPER END SLIDABLY THROUGH A SPHERICAL GUIDE MEMBER WHICH IS PIVOTALLY SUPPORTED IN A SPHERICAL BEARING.

P 17 83 078.3 Int. 61. B29c /04 US. Cl. 18--5R 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DKSCLOSURE A jarring device for producing molded bodies which is provided with a jarring table on top of which is attached a mold box into which the material to be molded is introduced. A cover weight extends from above into the mold box to rest on the molding material therein. A guide rod extends vertically upwardly from the center of the cover weight and extends with its upper end slidably through a spherical guide member which is pivotally supported in a spherical bearing.
The invention relates to a jarring apparatus for the production of large molded bodies, particularly for producing carbon electrode to be used in the aluminum industry. The apparatus is provided with an oscillatably mounted jarring table having a vibratory drive and a mold box which is connectable with the jarring table, While a cover weight, which can be raised and lowered, is employed for resting on the molding material introduced into the mold box.
An object of the invention is a jarring apparatus in which electrodes are produced whose opposite surfaces are as parallel as possible when they leave the jarring apparatus. This is accomplished in accordance with the invention by providing the upper side of the cover weight in the center thereof with a vertical guide rod whose upper end is laterally supported by extending slidably through a pivotally mounted guide sleeve. This arrangement assures an accurate axial guidance of the cover weight even during the jarring operation, because an inclined position of the cover weight, which should always remain horizontal, is always assured even when the bulk density of the molding material introduced into the mold box should not be uniform.
The single figure of the drawing illustrates diagrammatical and by way of example an embodiment of the apparatus of the invention.
A horizontal disposed jarring table 2 is vertically oscillatable mounted on vertical helical springs 1. The table 2 is provided with a vibratory drive and carries fixedly attached thereto a mold box 3. Within the upper portion of the mold box 3 extends a cover weight 4 comprising a sheet metal box filled with concrete and parts of scrap Patented Sept. 21, 1971 and having at its upper side a centrally disposed vertically upwardly extending guide rod 5. In the operative position of the cover weight 4 it rests upon a mass of molding material 6 which has been deposited in the mold box 3 and the upper end of the guide rod 5 is slidably guided in the diametrical bore of a pivotally mounted guide sleeve 7. The rod 5 may move vertically in the guide sleeve 7 in accordance with the vibratory movement of the jarring table 2.
Preferably, the outer surface of the guide sleeve 7 is spherical and is placed in a corresponding hollow spherical seat provided in a bearing member 8 which is fixedly attached to a supporting frame 9 of which a portion only is shown in the drawing. The guide sleeve 7 with the bearing member 8 forms a spherical slide bearing which permits small lateral pivotal movements, which occur when the cover weight 4 is raised and lowered and are necessary owing to the great dimensions of the parts of the apparatus.
The device for raising and lowering of the cover weight may-for example, when a cable line is employed-be attached to the cover weight, or advantageously may comprise, for example, a hydraulically operated lifting apparatus 12 which engages directly the upper end of the guide rod 5.
What I claim is:
1. Jarring apparatus for the production of molded bodies, particularly carbon electrodes used in the aluminium industry, comprising an oscillatably mounted horizontal jarring table, a vibratory drive connected with said jarring table, a mold box attached to the top side of said jarring table, a cover weight adapted to be raised and lowered extending from above into said mold box for resting on the molding material introduced into said mold box, a vertical guide rod rigidly connected to and extending upwardly from the center of said cover weight, a guide sleeve having a spherical outer surface and having a diametrical bore slidably receiving the upper portion of said vertical guide rod, and a fixedly mounted bearing member having a hollow spherical seat for engaging the spherical outer surface of said guide sleeve and permitting swinging movements of said guide rod about the center of the spherical outer surface of said guide sleeve.
2. Apparatus according to claim 1, including means connected with said guide rod for raising and lowering said cover weight.
