[Class 141] The shoulder straps of braces are formed from a single length of material doubled on itself to form a loop at the back adapted to receive a button link and held thus by a retaining member. As shown, the shoulder straps 3, 4 are formed from a strip of synthetic resin, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, or rubber, having longitudinal ribbing 30 on the under side. The retaining member consists of a sleeve 4a provided with a U- shaped notch 9 at the upper end of each side causing the shoulder straps to diverge. The free end of each shoulder strap is passed through slots 12, 13 in a runner 11 and bent at 19 to form a loop 25 through which a front button link passes. The end is then threaded through the slots 14, 15, the superposed portions of the strap being held by a sleeve 23. If desired, a similar runner may be employed in place of the sleeve 4a at the back. In a modification, a three-slot runner is threaded through a slot in each front button link 6, the shoulder strap being threaded through the slots and round the link, holding the link against longitudinal movement. Lateral projections may be provided at the bottom of the runner to retain it in the slot. In this case, a single slot runner may be employed, the strap ends being secured by, press studs so that the length of the web is adjustable. The slot in the link may be formed in an integral lug or web instead of through the link itself. Specification 601,647 is referred to.
