601,503. Bearings. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. Oct. 9, 1945, No. 26353. Convention date, Oct. 18, 1944. [Class 12 (i)] A bottom bearing for sensitive metering apparatus such as electricity meters comprises upper and lower cup members 6, 12 with two balls 13 situated therebetween and arranged side by side. The upper cup 6 is shown as carried by a short stub spindle 2 into a socket of which is inserted a taper end of the meter spindle 1. The lower cup 12 is held in a sleeve 7 by which the whole bearing assembly is mounted in a base-plate. This sleeve 7 has a flanged top 8 and an inner ring 9 of some width held therein by a spring ring 10; this wide ring 9 supports the stub spindle 2 in the event of excessive lateral movement, while the flange 8 serves in conjunction with a collar 3 on the stub spindle to retain the stub spindle in the sleeve mounting and to prevent the stub spindle 2 being raised to such an extent as to release the balls 13.
