Abstract

610,592. Bearings. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. May 22,1946, No. 15507. Convention date, May 28, 1945. Addition to 508,642. [Class 12 (i)] A footstep bearing for use in electricity meters as described in the parent Specification comprising a cup member 18 supported with limited freedom in the fixed part 6 of the footstep bearing by means of a leaf spring 12, has the meter spindle of the bearing secured against displacement from the cup member by means of a cap 21 enclosing the lower end of the spindle and screwed on to the non-rotating part of the bearing. The meter spindle 16 is provided at its lower end with a tightly fitting sleeve 19 holding a ball 20, the whole assembly forming the running part of the bearing. The cap 21 which is milled or knurled for manipulation screws on to a support 17 and presses a hard fabric guard ring 25 against the bearing cup member 18. A collar 23 on the sleeve prevents withdrawal of the spindle through the shouldered aperture 22 of the cap. In an alternative arrangement, a bearing cup may be attached to the running part of the bearing and a ball may be attached to the non-rotating part of the bearing.
