Abstract

601,092. Conditioning air. LAIRD, W. Oct. 27, 1945, No. 28440. [Class 137] In an air-conditioning apparatus the air is passed through a dehydrator A of the absorbent type, to which a regenerating heated fluid is supplied at A2, a heatexchanger E, a humidifier H and a heater J, and the apparatus includes means for supplying heating medium, viz. the heated fluid leaving the dehydrator at A<3>, to the heat - exchanger E, means for supplying cooling medium e.g. atmospheric air, to the same, and means for changing over from one to the other e.g. valves Vl, V3. In the form shown, air is drawn by a fan C through a dehydrator A of the kind described in Specification 536,776, [Group XXVII], and the regenerating fluid is air, heated at B, which after leaving the dehydrator, in addition to being supplied to the heat-exchanger E, may be used in the heater J or, as shown, supplied via valve V<2> to a heater K where it is used to heat water some of which is supplied to the heater J the rest being stored at S to be drawn off when required. The regenerating fluid leaving the dehydrator may also be used to preheat other fluid before it passes to the heater B. The air to be conditioned passes from the heat-exchanger E to a cooler G before passing through the humidifier H, and the latter comprises a spray chamber from the bottom of which water is pumped through the cooler and then.to the spray, the air finally passing through the heater J.
