Abstract

973,035. Air conditioning vehicles. NORMALAIR Ltd. Dec. 3, 1962 [Dec. 6, 1961], No. 43617/61. Heading F4V. An air heating and cooling apparatus for a vehicle comprises a cylindrical inlet compartment 1 having a fresh air inlet 10, a recirculating air inlet 9, an outlet 7 to a refrigerator evaporator 12, an outlet 8 to a heater matrix 14, cable operated outlet and inlet valves 3, 4 pivotally mounted on the axis of the compartment 1 by means of pairs of radial arms 5, 6 and a valve 17 downstream of the heater matrix 14. The evaporator 12 which is thermostatically controlled is incorporated in a removable outlet compartment 11 provided with condensate draining outlets and variable louvres 15. The heater matrix 14 which is thermostatically controlled and the valve 17 are incorporated in a removable outlet compartment 13 provided with hose connections 18 for the windscreen demister of the vehicle. An electrically driven fan 2 is mounted in the compartment 1. In operation the valve 4 is positioned to allow the intake of either fresh or recirculated air, or a proportion of both, into the compartment 1. The valve 3 is positioned to direct the air flow into either the cooling compartment 11 or the heating compartment 13 in which case the hot air flowing to the windscreen of the vehicle is controlled by the valve 17.
