Abstract

909,954. Ventilating vehicles. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd., S. July 25, 1960 [July 24, 1959], No. 25531/59. Class 137. Apparatus for supplying heated or cool air to the passenger compartment of a motor vehicle comprises an inlet 12 arranged to engage the underside of the bonnet opposite a ventilation louvre therein, a heat exchanger 9 through which air passes to a chamber 18 having two ports 21, 22 controlled by valves 24, 26, a passage 20 through which air by-passes the heater to flow through a port 23 which is also controlled by valve 24, a fan 30 and outlet duct 35 which is controlled by a butterfly valve 38 to pass air to the passenger compartment and to openings at the bottom of the windscreen. The valves 24, 26 are operated together through a cable 43 to allow a full flow through the heater but none through the by-pass or vice versa or a partial flow through each.
