Abstract
583,196. Air conditioning. HOLT, S. June 26, 1944, No. 12114. [Class 137] [Also in Group XII] In a self-contained air-conditioning apparatus, air is drawn by a fan d, Fig. 1, into a horizontal trunk e where it passes through a fine spray thrown off the rotating discs f (see Group XII), an eliminator i, such as a fine mesh screen, to remove water drops, a heater j and into a room at k, the arrangement being such that the air has a straight path from the fan to the heater. Air may be drawn both from the outside atmosphere via duct a, Fig. 3, and from inside the room, the relative proportions being controlled by louvres u. Excess water may be recirculated via pipe o and may be mixed with chilled water from a tank s. As shown in Fig. 3, a number of airconditioning units may be combined and automatically controlled, a thermostat p controlling both the proportions of fresh and recirculated air, and the proportions of chilled and recirculated water supplied to the discs, and a hygrostat q in the room controlling the flow of water and the supply of heating agent, e.g., steam, to the heaters j.
