Abstract

600,770. Endless-belt conveyers. HUNTER, W. H. May 11, 1945, No. 11856. [Class 78 (i)] In an endless-belt conveyer having conveying and return runs carried by supporting pulleys, the belt during its travel from the conveying run 1 to the return run 2 and vice versa makes two quarter twists in each case, one in one direction before passing round a return pulley 9 and the other in the opposite direction after passing round this pulley, the axis of the pulley 9 being at right angles to the axis of the supporting pulleys 4 to 8 and 10 to 14, and the arrangement being such that the belt is kept throughout its travel with its clean surface towards the pulleys over and around which it passes. In a modification, the return pulleys are disposed inwards from the ends of and below the conveying runs. In another modification, the runs may be arranged one above the other, the end horizontal rollers being canted slightly to prevent the conveyer belt from rocking laterally outwards. In a further modification, the runs may be located alongside each other, but at different levels, the belt passing below both runs and making both twists while travelling in a horizontal plane at this level before being carried up to the other run. The belt passes round more than one return pulley between the two twists, the pulleys having their axes vertical and serving for the transference of the belt without twisting from a point beneath the first run at which the first twist finishes to a point beneath the second run at which the second twist commences. The upper conveying run has its discharge end located short of the starting end of the return run and a shoot is arranged so as to transfer material discharged from the end of the conveyer run to the return run.
