Class 29 [Also in Group XXX] To prevent material, e.g. herrings, carried on a conveying surface through a freezing tunnel from freezing together and to the conveying surface, the surface is so formed that the path of the material is generally horizontal but has zig-zag shaped deviations in a vertical plane. As shown in Fig. 1, an endless belt conveyer 1 is constrained to take the path shown by lower rollers 4 and by upper rollers 3 which bear only on the edges of the conveyer. Rollers 4 may be of greater diameter than rollers 3. As shown in Fig. 4, the conveying surface is formed by large and small driven rollers 9, 10 disposed as shown. Rollers 10 may be dispensed with, the larger rollers being disposed closer together. The rollers may be relatively adjustable.
