Abstract

600,119. Pile fabrics. ISSUM, H. VAN, and FUHRHOP, W. F. Nov. 6, 1945, Nos. 29429 and 32259. [Class 142(iv)] [Also in Group VII] A method of producing a pile fabric with the aid of a pile supporting or consolidating substance capable of being removed from the pile after the latter has been fixed to a backing, consists in preforming a tablet, slab, sheet or the like layer 2 from the removable supporting substance and producing the pile 1 therein by means of a knitting, embroidering, sewing or similar operation. The slab may be of uniform or non-uniform thickness and in the latter case the upper or lower surfaces, or both, of the slab may be patterned. The needles 3 are guided by a grooved member [see Group VII] and may co-operate with a shuttle bobbin 6 so that the looped ends 8 of the pile are bound. The pile while supported in the slab may be fixed with plastic material and a backing 12 of fabric or other material may be bound to the slab during the formation of the pile. The slab may be cut transversely of the pile prior to the application of the plastic material. Coloured yarn may be used to enable patterns to be formed in the pile fabric. Specification 588,548 is referred to.
