Abstract
Non-woven fibrous material is made by stress-relieving one side of the filaments of a thermoplastic multifilament yarn (or a monofilament) e.g. by the method described in Specification 969,648, forming the yarn into a "package" e.g. a wound bobbin package, roll or drum or a mat formed by "lacing" yarn in a flat plane, under tension and to a desired thickness, and then releasing the tension (as by cutting a wound package longitudinally to separate it from the bobbin). Interlocking of the fibres may be increased by treating the material with a fluid e.g. steam or hot air. A resinous or latex binder may be added. Specifications 808,213 and 890,110 also are referred to.
